FAQs

How much does it cost?

Each piece is individually priced and we don't charge a studio fee, so you only pay for what you paint. We have a selection of decorations and tiles starting at £8, standard mugs, bowls, and plates at £18-£24, with larger homeware pieces upwards of this.

How long does it take?

Your session lasts 2 hours, but if you don't finish your piece in this time, you're welcome to take one of our free take home kits and finish your piece in the comfort of your own home. Just drop the paints back with us when you drop off your piece. You can paint as many pieces as you'd like, bu we find most people are happy to focus on just one

How long until I can collect my piece/ do you post?

From the end of your session, your piece will take anywhere between 7 and 10 days to be dried, glazed, fired, and then wrapped up. At the end of your session, a member of staff will go through all of the collection information, and give you an accurate timeline. We keep everything for up to 4 weeks, so plenty of time to come and collect. Certain items can be rushed through, but this is determined only on a case-by-case basis. Unfortunately we cannot post any items, locally or internationally, as we've had too many issues in the past and can't guarantee the safe arrival of your pieces.

How do I book a session?

If you are a group of 6 or less, just coming to paint, please feel free to head to our website and book through there. If you are a large group, wanting to do a throwing session, baby imprint/impression session, or have any accessibility needs, please give us a call at 0131 229 1399 so we can best accommodate you.

Any other questions? Have a read below or give us a call at 0131 229 1399

  • Do I have to book/How do I book in?

Yes, we always recommend booking in where possible. We are a busy shop and unfortunately we can't keep tables free for walk-ins. Our weekends are especially busy and can book up 1 - 2 weeks in advance. You can book online for groups of 6 or less but for larger groups, baby bookings and childrens parties please call us on 0131 229 1399 or pop into the workshop.

  • What can I paint?

We stock a wide variety of ceramic items which change regularly. We will consistently have items such as bowls, plates, mugs, plant pots and vases, alongside many varying pieces of home and kitchenware.

  • Do you offer international shipping?

No unfortunately we do not post out items, either internationally or within the UK.

  • Can I buy a gift voucher?

Yes! We sell gift vouchers on our website and in our shop. Vouchers purchased online will send you an email with your unique voucher code, which can be redeemed against any of our pottery and services. Please note all of our vouchers have an expiry of 1 year.

Vouchers purchased before 20th of July with no expiry will still be honoured indefinelty

  • Can I pay by card?

Yes! We accept all major credit/debit cards, including American Express. We also accept cash, and there is an ATM 30 seconds around the corner from us if you require.

  • Do you sell tea or coffee/do you allow food/drinks in the workshop?

We do not sell any food or drink on the premises. There are many lovely cafes/coffee shops in Marchmont if you wish to bring your own drink with you. We ask customers not to consume food on the premises, as the oil and food particles can affect the paints and glaze in the kiln, and can lead to issues with your pottery.

  • What's your BYOB policy?

Yes! You are more than welcome to BYOB to your session. We ask that you bring your own disposable cups with you as we don't provide any. We also ask that you take any glass recycling away with you, as we don't have the option to recycle this on premisises- there is a bottle bank just around the corner from us. Please be mindful of other customers in the workshop when drinking.

  • I'm not very creative, can you help me create/paint?

We want you to have some creative fun at our workshop! That being said, we are also a busy shop with only 3 to 5 staff members on to run it all. We advise you have a quick browse online for some ideas before you come in. We always recommend checking out Pinterest , our online gallery or Instagram for some great inspiration. All of our staff are friendly and knowledgable about all things pottery and design-related.  If you have any questions, or would like to know how to fix a mistake, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff, however, we won't be able to sit and paint with you for your session.

We can assist you with simple writing on pottery (e.g. a name and date) for an added £2 per item.

  • Can I book in for painted baby hand/foot prints or imprints?

Yes! We offer a specialist service where we can help you put your baby's painted prints onto pottery, or we can imprint their hand and feet into fresh clay. When you book in, please mention to our staff that this is what you are hoping to do in your session. We can have a  maximum of 3 parents and 3 babies at any one time in the workshop. Not all of our staff are trained to assist with baby prints/imprints and these  can require a little time.

We can assist you with simple writing on pottery (e.g. a name and date) for an added £2 per item.

  • Do you have wheelchair access?

Our ceramic painting studio is at ground level with wide door access. However, please let us know when you book in that you require wheelchair access and we will put your booking on one of our accessible tables.

We wish to accomdate everyone at Doodles, and if you or anyone in your booking has any other accessibilty requirements we will do our utmost to fulfill them.

  • Is there an age requirement?

No! Doodles is for all ages. We offer BYOB 7 days a week, so weekends and Tues/Wed/Thurs evenings can have more of a grown-up vibe. We always have a mix of large group bookings/hen do's/children's parties on the weekends.
