FAQs

FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.
  • Do I have to book/How do I book in?

Yes, we always recommend booking in where possible. We are a busy shop and unfortunatly we can't keep tables free for walk-ins. Our weekends are especially busy and can book up 1 - 2 weeks in advance. To book in, please call us on 0131 229 1399 or pop into the workshop. We can't take bookings by email/social media. We require a  minimum £20 deposit with all bookings.

  • How much does it cost?

All of our items are individually priced with most standard items costing between £10-£30. We have larger and smaller items for prices outside of this range which we hope will be accessible for all budgets. The cost of the pottery includes the cost of paints/glaze/firing, so there is NO STUDIO FEE.

  • How long do I get to paint?

Everyone gets a maximum 2 hour slot from the start of your booking. We don't offer extended slots, but if you don't get finished within this time, you can have a take-home kit at no extra cost to finish you pottery at your own leisure. The last slot of the day starts 2 hours before close and we ask kindly that customers leave promptly as our staff still have to clean.

  • What can I paint?

We stock a wide variety of ceramic items which change regularly. We will consistently have items such as bowls, plates, mugs, plant pots and picture frames, alongside many varying pieces of home and kitchenware.

  • How long before I can collect my pottery?

We always aim to have your pottery ready 7 days after you painted it. In some circumstances (kiln issues etc) this can take a little longer, but we will always call you/leave a message to keep you updated.

If you need your pieces fired early, please let us know at the end of your session and we'll see what we can do depending on how busy we are.

  • What if I'm not from Edinburgh, do you post?

If you've visited us in Edinburgh and are leaving before your pottery is ready, we can post anywhere within the UK for an added fee of £6 - £8 depending on the weight of your pottery.

  • Do you offer international shipping?

If you might require international shipping, please let us know at the end of your session. We evaluate this on a case-to-case basis depending on cost etc.

  • How long will you keep my items?

We will hold onto your pottery for an initial 4 weeks, after which we will call you giving you 1 week notice for final collection. If for some reason, you need us to hold onto your item for longer please let us know at the end of your session and we will make a note of this. Unfortunately, we are not able to hold on to forgotten items after your week notice if we haven't heard from you due to limited space in the workshop.

  • Can I buy a gift voucher?

Yes! We sell gift vouchers on our website and in our shop. If you buy one from our website, there is a 48 hr processing window within which we aim to send your gift voucher to you, as we have to make them up after we receive your order.

    Our vouchers never expire either!

  • Can I pay by card?

Yes! We accept all major credit/debit cards EXCEPT      for American Express (we have tried, but unfortunaty our workshop is not compatible.) We also accept cash, and there is an ATM 30 seconds around the corner from us if you require.

  • Do you sell tea or coffee/do you allow food/drinks in the workshop?

We do not sell any food or drink on the premises. There are many lovely cafe's/coffee shops in Marchmont if you wish to bring your own drink with you. We ask customers not to consume food on the premises, as the oil and food particales can affect the paints and glaze in the kiln, and can lead to issues with your pottery.

  • What's your BYOB policy?

Yes! You are more than welcome to BYOB to you session. We ask that you bring your own disposable cups with you as we don't provide any. We also ask that you take any glass recycling away with you, as we don't have the option to recycle this on premisises, however, there is a bottle bank just around the corner from us. Please be mindful of other customers in the workshop when drinking.

  • I'm not very creative, can you help me create/paint?

We want you to have some creative fun at our workshop! That being said, we are also a busy shop with only 3 to 5 staff members on to run it all. We advise you have a quick browse online for some ideas before you come in. We always recommend checking out Pinterest , our online gallery or instagram for some great inspiration. All of our staff are friendly and knowledgable about all things pottery and design-related.  If you have any questions, or would like to know how to fix a mistake, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff, however, we won't be able to sit and paint with you for your session.

We can assist you with simple writing on pottery (e.g. a name and date) for an added £2 per item.

  • Do you offer children's parties?

Yes! We offer parties for kids ages 8+ in our workshop where they can paint a figurine for £15 per head, or a plate, bowl, mug for £18 per head as part of the party package. You can bring cake and juice to have after the painting is finished.

Please note: we don't offer any snacks or refreshments.

  • Can I book in for painted baby hand/foot prints or imprints?

Yes! We offer a specialist service where we can help you put your baby's painted prints onto pottery, or we can imprint their hand and feet into fresh clay. When you book in, please mention to our staff that this is what you are hoping to do in your session. We can have a  maximum of 3 parents and 3 babies at any one time in the workshop. Not all of our staff are trained to assist with baby prints/imrints and these  can require a little time.

We can assist you with simple writing on pottery (e.g. a name and date) for an added £2 per item.

  • Do you have wheelchair access?

Yes, we do! Please let us know when you book in that you require wheelchair access and we will put your booking on one of our accessible tables. We also have an accessible bathroom.

We wish to accomadte everyone at Doodles, and if you or anyone in your booking has any other accessibilty requirements we will do our utmost to fulfill them.

  • Is there an age requirement?

No! Doodles is for all ages. We offer BYOB 7 days a week, so weekends and Tues/Wed/Thurs evenings can have more of a grown-up vibe. We always have a mix of large group bookings/hen do's/children's parties on the weekends.

THROWING CLASS INFORMATION / T's&C's

PLEASE NOTE THAT POTTERY IS KEPT FOR ONLY 2 MONTHS AFTER IT'S READY FOR COLLECTION.

Info

Please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a bit messy, although aprons will be provided. If you can, please make sure nails aren't too long as this gets in the way of throwing your pot.

The session will last roughly 1.5-2 hours and there will be a maximum of 6 people per booking, plus the throwing instructor. You will make 2 small pots each, and then choose your favourite one which will be glazed and fired in the kiln. If you would like to keep more than one, we will charge an additional £5 for each extra pot. There is an option to paint your pieces a few weeks later for an additional charge of £10 per person. Otherwise, pots will be clear glazed and ready to collect, around 6 weeks later. Postage to UK addresses can also be arranged at standard postage rates.

Deposit T's & C's

If you can no longer make your booking, please let us know as soon as possible and at least 48 hours before the session in order to get your deposit refund. If you are ill on the day of your booking, please give us at least 2 hours notice and we will try to arrange a booking transfer for the next suitable date. If we receive no notice or notice within 2 hours, we will class this booking as a 'no show', in which case your deposit or Gift Voucher Deposit will be withheld.

If you have any questions about your booking, please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to seeing you at the session!
